My name is Thato Tshimololo, a young lady born and raised in Maun, Botswana and I joined the Junior Ranger on the 24th of July 2024, I am currently serving as an Educational Supervisor where I am responsible for supporting and guiding my team, coordinating activities as well as ensuring that tasks are effectively conducted and delivered on time and solving problems that may arise. Through this role I have I have developed a deeper appreciation for teamwork, community engagement and youth development. I am proud of the responsibility entrusted to me.
I love my job because it gave me opportunity to work with young people, support their development and encourage them to take active role in protecting and caring for the environment. I enjoy seeing a progressive impact of the program on the club members of Junior Ranger and being part of something that help them in the expansion of their practical skills, confidence and better comprehension of conservation.
Through my work I have achieved valuable experience in leadership skills, team coordination and environmental education by working schools and communities in Maun and surrounding areas. I am proud to have contributed to activities that inspire learners, young people and adults to become responsible environmental stewards. I have also achieved a lot in networking, meeting different people from different parts of Maun and even abroad even if it’s through channels of communication not physical to work together to make a difference. I have also grown as an individual in my personal life, I have become more confident, more self-aware, more responsible, I have set goals that I achieved and some still working towards them all by the opportunity given by working with Junior Ranger.
My career goal is to continue developing my leadership and management skills and to grow into a strong professional leader in conservation and community development, while making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people and the environment and myself too.
There is a saying: “If you want to go fast, go alone but if you want to go far, go together” and that is something I will cherish with the team I work with. Working together for one person.
